Presidents message

Stuart Oliver

MonBlues

A message from the President.

I wanted to take a moment to speak directly to everyone connected with KRFC.

There is no hiding from the fact that performances across the board over recent weeks haven’t been what any of us would have hoped for. The players know that, the coaches know that, and everyone around the club knows that.

There is, however, important context.

For the 1st XV, we’ve had a very difficult run of fixtures combined with an unprecedented number of injuries, particularly in some key positions. That isn’t an excuse, but it is the reality of where we find ourselves.

I know this group of players. I know how hard they are working behind the scenes, and I know how much they are itching to put things right on the pitch.

Every. Single. Person. who pulls on a blue jersey understands what that opportunity means.

Nobody takes it for granted.

I also understand that results, injuries and player movement can affect morale across other groups within our club. When things aren’t going well on the pitch, it is natural for people to worry about what comes next. There will undoubtedly be concerns among players, parents and supporters about people drifting away from the club or worse the sport as a whole.

That is exactly why this is the time to pull together… not abandon ship.

The next few weeks are massive for our 1st XV, and this is when we need to be a club in every sense of the word. Players, coaches, members, supporters, former players, volunteers and everyone connected with KRFC…we need to get behind the boys and girls pulling on our beloved blue jersey.

Our 2nd XV is equally important.

Since I joined the board four years ago a huge amount of work has gone into reigniting the Reds and making sure Kirkcaldy has a sustainable 2nd XV again. The injury situation across the senior section has made that incredibly difficult recently, and we need some help.

To our former players who might still have a few games left in the legs, and to anyone looking for a fresh start or a way back into rugby… we need you.

Our women’s section is feeling these pressures too. We have had to rely on players coming in to help us fulfil fixtures over the last couple of weeks because, without that support, we simply wouldn’t have had 15 players available.

That tells you this is bigger than the results of one team.

And to every single person who has answered the call and pulled on a Kirkcaldy jersey over the last few weeks… Blues, Reds or Women. Thank you. It is genuinely appreciated.

The challenges we are facing aren’t unique to Kirkcaldy. Rugby in Scotland is on a knife edge in many respects, and clubs up and down the country are dealing with the same challenges around player numbers, injuries, retention and simply keeping teams on the field every Saturday.

But we can only control what happens at our club.

And this is where we need everyone.

If you’re a parent, coach, volunteer or member … keep backing the people around you.

We can support our coaches. We can support our volunteers. We can encourage people back into the game. And most importantly, we can get behind every boy and girl who has the courage and commitment to pull on our beloved blue jersey.

Good times are easy to support.

It’s times like these when being a club really matters.

We’ve been through difficult periods before, and we will come through this one together.

We are Kirkcaldy Rugby Club.

We stick together.

Mon the Blues. ?

Yours faithfully,
President Podge
