Blues secure good win

Stuart Oliver

Monblues

The blues welcomed Caithness to the park for a Caley Cup game. The weather was unrecognisable from the day before, with the sun splitting the sky and no wind. A large home support gathered to watch the game, with the blues needing to win and secure a quarter final place.

The home team suffered a few injury calls off and their normal back row of A, D and Euan O having one fit body between the them formed a middle field combination instead of their normal positions. The visitors were a big physical team and looked to be a match for the blues in the opening stages. 20 minutes went by without a score, as both teams cancelled each other out. Euan M on the flank, instead of fullback was a willing ball carrier and knocked down anyone running at the blues defence. The young team of William, Ewan, Noah, Jason and Adam were all prominent in the game, carrying the ball well and showing no fear knocking down the big Caithness runners.

As the game wore on the blues got into their stride and some great passing movements and offloads so some great team tries. The pick of these being Euan M picking up a loose ball in his own half, beating 3 defenders before putting on the after burners to score under the posts. Special mention to for Ole VR who muscled over for a well deserved try, being one of the most improved players this season and a well deserved reward for his efforts. Half-time 35-0 for Kirkcaldy.

The 2nd half saw a few more changes in the back line, with injuries to Charlie and William, seeing them have to leave the field of play. This say utility back Donald move into 9 - with a backline of Euan O, A, D and after much persuasion to the coaches wannae be prop turned centre Innis enter the field of play at 13! Certainly an entertaining 2nd half! Both teams continued to play good rugby with the blues racing into a 47-0 lead. Caithness though were not done and great credit to them, as they kept going right to the end, with 2 well deserved scores in the last 10 minutes putting a better reflection on the score line.

Well done all and thanks to Ian Young for doing his second game as ref that morning.
